KUCHING: A self-employed man charged with rape and attempted rape of his then 14-year-old girlfriend six years ago maintained his innocence when his case was re-mentioned in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Abdul Hadi Mahabu, 25, from Simunjan allegedly committed the rape inside a car at Taman Matang in Matang Jaya at about 11.20pm on Dec 23, 2006.

He was also accused of attempting to rape her six days later (Dec 29, 2006) at about 8.30pm inside a bush near the same place. Yesterday he pleaded not guilty before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad who fixed Sept 12 for the further mention of the case.

The brief facts of the case stated that Abdul Hadi allegedly forced the girl to have sexual intercourse with him when they went out at night. The girl, now 22 years old, was assaulted when she rejected the boyfriend’s demand.

She admitted they had sex a few times before.

In 2006, the accused was charged in court but was subsequently discharged not amounting to acquittal as the girl did not cooperate with the authority during the proceeding.

He was released on extended bail of RM3,000.

ASP Carl Patrick Ramesh prosecuted while Abdul Hadi was not represented by any lawyer.
