FOCUSED: Kuching SMK Green Road Hornets, seen here training and giving tips to visitors are ambitious in winning the 2nd edition of the Sarawak Softball open competition which will be organised next month at the Stadium Negeri.
KUCHING: The Hornets will spearhead Kuching’s challenge in the 2nd Sarawak softball open competition to be held at Stadium Negeri from September 13 to 16.
“During the last competition held in Miri, we fielded an all-16 year old team and we were the first to it do so here,” said Kuching division softball head coach, Muhd Sophian Mohd Ali.
He is confident for the team to mount a serious challenge for the championship with the team made of mainly Sarawak under-18 players whom he believes will have a realistic chance of giving others a run for the money.
“We have Kautsar Untong, Haris Zainudin, Stanley Langgie, Mohd Zainol Ariffin, Muhd Amni Abhar and Awangku Nazirul…all these players are state under-18 players while Kautsar have reperesented Sarawak in last year Sukma,” he said.
He pointed out Kuching was champion in the recent MSSM meet with players like Omar Ali Bin Hassan, Eby Siddiq, Mohd Mahathir Repi and Muhd Zahhar Shamsul who were the new players playing in the previous MSSM inter-division softball meet with the team in Mukah.
“We are seriously focussed to win the next competition in September… we are hungry to win more titles,” enthused Muhd Sophian.
He said SMK Green Road which manages The Hornets has yet to finalised its decision on sending a girls team for next month’s event due to matters related to finance.
Muhd Sophian expressed his gratitude to member of parliament for Petra Jaya, Datuk Fadillah Yusuf for his continuos support towards the hornets and generous contributions from sponsors.
