KOTA KINABALU: Four hotels have presented Hari Raya cakes to the Head of State Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Juhar Hj Mahiruddin at Istana Negeri.
They were Le Meridien, Promenade Hotel, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu and Ming Garden Hotel & Residences.
Le Meridien presented a traditional concept Aidilfitri cake — a Meriam Buluh to signify the merriment and festivities of the upcoming holidays in Sabah.
The seven ketupat¨Cshaped edible candles on mock bamboo stands denoted the significance of Malam Tujuh Likur whilst the intricate chocolate-sprayed floral swirl designs on the cake underscored the brilliance of Islamic architecture.
Hyatt Regency Kinabalu presented a cake depicting a traditional ‘balik kampung’ scene.
The cake has life-like figurines of a daughter paying respect to her father, seated in a rocking chair, by holding his hand in a move to touch it against her forehead. Her husband and son are in the background, waiting for their turn.
This scene is reflected in many hometowns and villages, when grown-up children and their own families return home for the holidays.
From Promenade Hotel was a 30kg yogurt pandan (with assorted nuts) cake in the shape of a giant serving tray filled with a colourful assortment of Malay cakes.
Ming Garden Hotel & Residences’ cake is carefully structured by five key elements which are the ‘Five Holy Doors’, the ‘Eleven Pillars’ in Islam, ‘The Universal Kubah’, the ‘Moon’ with its theme colour ‘White’.
