PUTRAJAYA: The candidate for the National Sports Council (NSC) Athletes Division director will be announced after the Paralympic Games in London, said NSC director-general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong.

He said NSC would not be taking outsiders to fill the position which was held by National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Ahmad Shapawi Ismail earlier.

“We are firm in filling the post with an NSC officer. As for me, I will not have any problem with the development even though the post is still vacant as each NSC branch has its own head.

“When Ahmad Shapawi resumed his studies for two years prior to this, we continued to meet targets at the Commonwealth Games in New Dehli and the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in 2010,” he told reporters at an Aidilfitri reception for London 2012 Paralympic athletes here.

Zolkples said he had identified several potential officers to continue the nation’s excellent sports performance.

Ahmad Shapawi was appointed NSI chief executive officer to replace Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz, who is now special advisor to Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, to chart Malaysia’s preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. –Bernama
