KUCHING: Divisional and state champions SMK Green Road (Green Hornets) will not be participating in the 2nd Sarawak Open Softball Tournament at Stadium Negeri from Sept 13-16.

Teacher in charge of softball Juraimie Junaidi said revealed that the school is not fielding any team because the players are sitting for their trial exam for SPM from Aug 29 to Sept 14.

“It is so unfortunate that the tournament dates clashed with that of the zonal trial exam. Eighty per cent of our players are in Form 5 and only two are in Form 4,” informed Juraimie.

He said the Green Hornets were the Boys and Girls Under-18 champions in the MSSM Kuching Softball Tournament in Kuching in March and Boys Under-18 champions in the MSSM Sarawak Softball Tournament in Mukah in May this year.

To make up for the disappointment of his players missing out on the Sarawak Open, Juraimie said the school is planning to compete in the Mukah Open in December.

“We believe that exposure is very important for our players so we are going to send a team to Mukah end of the year. I learnt that Politeknik Mukah is planning to organise the Mukah Open,” he said.
