Man fined RM20,000 for illegal gambling

SANDAKAN: A man was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment and fined RM20,000, in default, one month’s jail by the Magistrates’ Court for involving in illegal gambling activities.

Mulad Basir, 52, pleaded guilty before magistrate Mohd Zairi Zainal Abidin to a charge under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

He committed the offence behind a supermarket in Sandakan town about 2.45pm on May 24, last year.

Police seized several gambling paraphernalia from the accused during the arrest.

In the same court, a security guard was jailed for two weeks and fined RM1,500, in default, three months’ imprisonment for disrupting police duties.

Ramliee Kooh, 55, disrupted the police who were arresting drug suspects at Jambatan 9 of Kampung Cahaya Baru at 11.10am on August 12.

Due to his action, one of the suspects escaped.

Ramliee was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
