Inaugural Curtin Open bowling tourney now open for entries

MIRI: Bowling enthusiasts are invited to participate in the inaugural Curtin Open bowling competition to be held at Mega Lanes East of Bintang Megamall on Sept 8.

Organised by Curtin Bowling Club, a total 17 teams are expected to compete including one from neighbouring Brunei.

Prizes worth up to RM2,500 are up for grabs and winning team will walk home with the grand prize of RM400 in cash, a hamper, a trophy and certificates of participation.

The first and second runner-up teams will receive cash prizes of RM300 and RM200 respectively, in addition to hampers, trophies and certificates.

There will also be prizes for the top three keglers in the men’s and also for the women’s section.

The Political Secretary to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Dato Sebastian Ting will officiate at the event. “We welcome anyone interested to participate and support our efforts to promote bowling as a healthy sporting activity,” said Curtin Bowling Club advisor, Jameson Malang.

According to the club’s president, Henry Ngu Chu Lik said that this is the first sports event organised by the club which involves the local community. “Our objective is to promote bowling as a healthy activity, build rapport with fellow bowling enthusiasts and the public as well as encourage teamwork among our members,” Ngu said.

The sponsors for the event include Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Captain Lau Choo Mee of Shin Yang Shipyard Sdn Bhd, Muhammad Yazid Abdul Sallam of Pos Mini Senadin and My Laundry, Shang Yang Company, and the Department of University Life, Curtin Sarawak.

The entry fee for the competition is RM140 per team of four players including at least one female player and the closing date is Sept 1.
