TAWAU: The Magistrate’s Court set September 21 this year for mention of the case of a 20-year-old Indonesian man charged with trafficking in 3.14 kg of syabu (methamphetamine).

Magistrate Edward Paul fixed the date after no plea was taken from the accused, Abdullah bin Burhan, when the case came up for mention yesterday.

Abdullah faces the mandatory death sentence upon conviction if found guilty as charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He was alleged to have trafficked in the drug on August 14 about 12.05pm off the Sabindo waters while he was on his way to Sebatik Island and he was detained by Marine police personnel after it was discovered that he was carrying a bag holding the drug valued at RM960,000.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, Paul sentenced a Filipino to two months’ jail for trespassing into a house.

Mikar bin Isang, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 447 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of six months, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused had entered into the house of Mamad bin Saidalam, 57, at Kampung Kinabutan on August 21 at 5.30pm.

In mitigation, Mikar claimed that he was searching for his wife who had run away after an argument with him.

Paul also ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation to his country of origin after serving his sentence.
