Indonesia’s trade with Canada up 61 per cent

JAKARTA: Trade between Indonesia and Canada has gone up by more than 61 per cent from AS$1.8 billion to AS$2.9 billion, said the republic’s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.

The minister, during a meeting with his Canadian counterpart, John Baird, in Ottawa, Canada said Indonesia was also now Canada’s biggest investment destination country in South East Asia, A statement released by Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry here, said the meeting between the ministers marked the 60 years of relations enjoyed by Indonesia and Canada.

Apart from discussing various regional and global issues including the question of Canada as an Asean dialogue partner, and opportunities to expand economic cooperation between the two countries, Marty and Baird also planned on forming a ministerial level Indonesia-Canada negotiations forum, the statement said. — Bernama
