KANGAR: Perlis is confident of being the perfect host of the 2014 Malaysia Games (Sukma) despite certain quarters having doubts about the preparation of sports infrastructure and accommodation facilities in the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu said Perlis would ensure that the games went on well.
Speaking at the 15th Sukma presentation of incentives to Perlis athletes here last night, he said that apart from ensuring the best in terms of organisation, Perlis would also field a strong team in 2014.
He said Perlis athletes had to perform well in their preparation for the next Sukma.
On the reservations expressed by certain quarters over the state’s ability to accommodate 10,000 Sukma athletes, officials and supporters, Md Isa said Perlis could meet the demand.
“There is no need for athletes to put up in other states on the excuse that Perlis does not have enough rooms,” he said.
He said as the Sukma host, Perlis needed to ensure that all athletes were accommodate in Perlis and the competition venues were also in the state.
Perlis Youth and Sports Committee chairman Abdul Jamil Saad said a sum of RM160 million had been allocated to ensure the success of Sukma 2014, including preparation of the sports infrastructure.
At the ceremony, Perlis Sukma athletes and coaches who helped to contribute medals at the Pahang Sukma recently received financial incentives totalling RM56,000.
At the Pahang games, Perlis won four gold, five silver and 12 bronze medals. — Bernama
