Four men charged with using criminal force against police personnel

KUALA LUMPUR: Four men pleaded not guilty in the Ampang Sessions Court, here, yesterday to a charge of using criminal force against the police on Aug 21.

Newspaper advertising agent A Albert, insurance agent R Senthil Mohan and car repossessor S Arokianathan, all aged 28, and parking attendant P Moonianday, 30, are alleged to have committed the offence while the policemen were carrying out their duties in Jalan Besar, Tasik Permai in Ampang Jaya at 1.45am last Tuesday.

They were charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years or a fine, or both.

The four accused also pleaded not guilty to the second charge of having two parangs at the same time and place, under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

The offence is read with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years and whipping upon conviction.

Arokianathan also pleaded not guilty to having another person’s identity card at the same time and place.

He was charged under Section 25 (1)(O) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM20,000.

Judge Roszianayati Ahmad allowed each of the four accused, bail of RM4,000 in one surety for all charges and fixed Oct 1 for case mention.

DPP Goh Ai Rene appeared for the prosecution while the accused, except Moonianday, were represented by lawyer Tharamjit Singh. — Bernama
