KOTA KINABALU: In conjunction with the state-level Merdeka Day celebration, the State Archives has put up a 10-day exhibition relating to the history and role of the Broadcasting Department.

The exhibition from August 28 to September 7 is being held at Wisma Pertanian.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin when officiating at the exhibition yesterday, said that it was an effective way to disseminate knowledge, messages and information to the general public.

Yahya who is also the organising chairman of the state-level Merdeka Day celebrations, added that it was also the best avenue to remember the past deeds and sacrifices of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj dan Tun Datu Hj Mustapha Datu Harun.

“The deeds of these two great leaders of the nation must be held in esteem by Malaysians in Sabah because they were the ones who fought for our freedom from the then colonial power.

“So it was time for all Malaysians to remember our founding leaders for the sake of defending the country’s independence and at the same time to appreciate the history of our nation,” Yahya stressed.

The Agriculture and Food Industry Minister also said that the historical documentation compiled and presented for the exhibition were the collaborative effort of the State Archives, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and the Broadcasting Department.

According to him, there was no denying that the Broadcasting Department had played a hugely major role in disseminating correct information on the government’s development to the people, adding that it had successfully contributed towards the unity of the multi-racial society of the state.
