KUCHING: The Sarawak taekwondo team could not have been crowned as the overall champions at the recent Sukma XV in Kuantan, Pahang if not for the staunch support of the Sarawak Taekwondo Association’s (WTF) patron and advisor.

Its president Mohd Salleh Sani said the patron Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem and advisor Datuk Hamden Ahmad had been helping the association via sponsorships to enable it to carry out its development programme as well as sending exponents for training and exposure competitions outside the state.

“On behalf of the Sarawak Taekwondo Association’s (WTF), I owe my sincere gratitude to our patron and advisor cum sports partner for their unconditional support. We could not have done it without their help to emerge as the taekwondo overall champions in Pahang,” Salleh said during a visit to Hamden at his Hari Raya open house recently.

The 16-member Sarawak team captured four gold, two silver and two bronze medals to top the competition.

Sarawak Taekwondo Association’s (WTF) was also the first organisation to achieve this feat for the past 20 years.

During the visit, Salleh was accompanied by deputy president Dato’ Lau Kueng Chai, first vice-president Then Yit Fui, secretary Alex Yeo, technical chairman Tan Check Joon and some members of the state Sukma team.

Adenan and Hamden were also briefed on the recent activities organised and participated by the association and the report of the state Sukma taekwondo team’s performance at Sukma XV.
