HE IS BACK: Namewee will be in Kuching to promote his new comedy ‘Hantu Gangster’ coming Saturday.

KUCHING: Talented musician and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, will be here to promote his new movie ‘Hantu Gangster’ this coming Saturday.

The promotional tour to be held at tHe Spring at 2pm would also see activities to interact with fans and the public on stage such as mini games.

Taiyuddin Bakar, Bao and Reneetha Veeraya are expected to be present as well.

Additionally, fans could purchase clothes and Wee’s albums at the event. Thereafter, they would proceed to the
Curve Bar at 9pm where Namewee would perform with invited band Slap!.

The new horror comedy that cost RM3 million to produce is Namewee’s second movie after the hugely successful Nasi Lemak 2.0 which reaped RM7 million.

The movie which began screening in cinemas nationwide on Aug 9 also featured a number of local celebrities including Farid Kamil, Amber Chia, Reshmonu, Dennis Lau and MizzNina.

In the film, Namewee plays a rogue Te Sai (‘Pig Poo’ in Hokkien) who stole a ring during a funeral of former gangster leaders of a Malay, Chinese and Indian gang.

They were killed by a devious manipulator Ewan (played by Farid Kamil) and their three ghosts now want to create chaos by destroying the racial harmony cultivated by the former gang leaders.

With the guidance of the three ghosts played by Datuk Jalaluddin Hassan, Charlie Loke and Datuk David Arumugam, Te Sai must save the day and in the process rescue the beauteous Jameeiah (Diana Danielle) who happens to be the teacher of his precocious 12-year-old son.

She is also the daughter of the late Malay gang leader and sister of the current Malay leader.

The script was written by Namewee, Fred Chong and Viviwee, the brother of Namewee.Similar to Nasi Lemak 2.0, a mixture of languages were used to showcase the ‘rojak-style’ of this local production.

Already gaining popularity since it started showing with mixed reviews from different parties, the film aims to promote unity and the 1Malaysia concept.

To promote the new movie, Namewee had intentionally showed a photo of himself bandaged and covered in bruises on Facebook which shocked fans and other social network users.

Later he held a press conference to clear the matter which had drawn criticism and ridicule from sections of the public.

Namewee admitted it was a gimmick to promote ‘Hantu Gangster’ to get publicity on a scale impossible without a big budget.

Namewee from Muar, Johor rose to fame after releasing a controversial song fused with Malaysia’s national athem, Negaraku, which lyrics might have insulted various quarters.

After that controversy follows him in whatever he does.
