Junior golfers to the fore at 10th KGS Transview Classic

KUCHING: Junior golfers ruled the roost at the 10th KGS Transview Classic at the Sarawak Golf Club last Sunday when they captured the main titles in the first tournament held at the club after Ramadan.

Abdul Rahim Abang Abdul Rahman clinched the men’s gross top prize while Gertrude Lee triumphed in the women’s gross contest.

Rahim carded a 70 gross score in the one-day tournament while the runner-up Nicholas Lau finished three strokes further back.

In third place was regular Kho Hua Sin who beat Hoon Kee Hock to fourth on count back (OCB) after the duo returned similar scores of 76 while fifth was Helmi Hipni.

The sixth to eighth placing was won by Ong Kim Peng, Waili Abang and Muas Sebli.

In group A nett event, Seok Se Woon was first with 67 score, followed by Chia Bui Chong (68), Danny Wee (69) and Alvin Yong (70 OCB).

Yeo Teck Khoon grabbed the Group B nett with his score of 64, four strokes ahead of Chen Shiun and Hilary Lee was third a stroke further back. Fifith to eighth were Annuar Abu Bakar, Chai Ming Siang, Loong Seh Kong and Mohd Nur Aiman. Gertrude Lee won the women’s gross event with a score of 76.

The women’s nett was won by Rebecca Sia who carded a 66 while the runner-up Laura Goh scored a 67 and third was Celine Foo with a 72.

Over 230 golfers took part in the event that also saw lucky non-winners bringing home lucky draw prizes during the closing ceremony.
