Filipino gets 11 months’ jail over fake MyKad

KOTA KINABALU: A Filipino was jailed for 11 months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possessing a fake MyKad.

Weindie Jalil admitted committing the offence at counter No. 4, Terminal 2, Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) about 10.20am on August 23 this year.

He was charged under Regulation 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which provides for a fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000 or a jail term of up to three years or both.

In a separate case yesterday, another foreigner, Sabri Mulok, was also sentenced to 11 months’ jail for possessing another person’s MyKad.

Sabri admitted to possessing Awangku Mohd Hairee Sallehhuddin’s MyKad which bears number 921031-12-5583 at the KKIA Terminal 2 departure hall about 6.10pm on the same day.

The offence under Regulation 25 (1) (o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 carries the same punishment.

The court ordered both accused to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action after their release from prison.
