Local denies robbing senior citizen

KOTA KINABALU: A local man yesterday claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a gang robbery charge.

Ahmad Farizul Ismail, 22, is accused of robbing a 73-year-old senior citizen, Nia Hui Lee @ George Nieh Hui Lit, at knife-point of RM800, 100 Brunei dollars and a gold ring.

The offence was allegedly committed with two accomplices who are still at large at Puri Warisan, Inanam about 3.10pm on Sept 28 this year,

The charge under Section 395 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.

High Court deputy registrar Amir Shah Amir Hassan, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, set Sept 13 for case management and granted the accused RM15,000 bail with two local sureties.

The accused was unrepresented while deputy public prosecutor Wan Aiman Azwan Wan Fakhruddin prosecuted.
