SIBU: All the 65 footballers shortlisted by Sibu Football Association (FA) to represent central region for the coming Sarawak Cup must report for centralised training at the Prison Field which begins tomorrow.

Sibu FA secretary, Abdul Hajis said they must report to the team coach Mohd Ali Putit before 4pm.

He said those selected must turn up for training or otherwise they may be barred from participating in future Sibu football league.

“If they cannot come for the training, they must submit their reasons in writing and to explain their absence,” he said.

Hajis said they were serious in forming a formidable team this time round as they were eying for at least a quarter-final berth in the annual Sarawak Cup.

“We are not going to take chances and we want to build a team that is strong… that is why we want our players to be committed and disciplined,” he added.

According to him, the players were selected from the recent Sibu League Naim Cup 2012.

“During the championship, they showed enormous talent… we hope that they could continue to show this in the coming Sarawak Cup,” he said on the shortlisted players who will take centre stage when Sarawak Cup kicks off in Miri starting Oct 1.

“Kuching is the defending champion and they are expected to retain the throne, though Bintulu and Mukah could pose a serious threat to the title,” Hajis said.

Nevertheless, Hajis said Sibu, being the dark horse, could also spring some surprises if the players stay focused and play with determination.
