53 Merdeka babies born in Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 53 Merdeka babies, 24 of them girls, were born, including 18 through Caesarean section, at eight government and private hospitals in the Klang Valley .

One of the babies, a boy weighing 3.2kg, was delivered immediately after midnight at the Kajang Hospital which reported the birth of six Merdeka babies, including a pair of twin girls.

The Sungai Buloh Hospital recorded 13 births, with the first, a boy, at 12.14am.

At the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM), eight babies, three of them girls, have been delivered since midnight until 9.02am.

A spokesman at PPUM said the first Merdeka baby born at the centre this year was a girl, weighing 2.73kg, at 12.20am.

The second baby, also a girl, weighing 2.58kg, was delivered 10 minutes later, he said.

Eight births, four of them boys, have been reported at Serdang Hospital yesterday with the first, a girl, born at 1.02am.

The Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) has also recorded seven births, five of them boys.

At Kuala Lumpur Hospital, five births have been reported, two of them girls, including one born to an Indonesian.

The Kuala Lumpur Pantai Hospital also reported five births, with the first baby, a girl, born at 2.03am, while at the Kuala Lumpur Tawakkal Hospital, two births, both boys, have been reported.

Meanwhile, in Terengganu, 28 Merdeka babies were born at several hospitals in the state as of noon yesterday.

Twelve of the babies were born at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ), with the first baby born at 12.14am to Suhaili A Aziz, 28, who is a nurse at the hospital.

In George town, three Merdeka babies were born at the Penang Hospital, including two Indonesian babies.

The proud parents of one of the babies is AEON supervisor Abdul Hafiz Ali Anuar, 28, and wife, Rosnah Ahmad 25.

“The baby, our first, arrives unexpectedly. My wife was due to deliver only on Oct 27, but she started showing signs of giving birth yesterday,” he said.

In Seremban, Negeri Sembilan Health director Datuk Dr Zailan Adnan said 17 Merdeka babies were born at government hospitals in the state yesterday.

He said six of the babies were born at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital Seremban (HTJS), nine at the Tunku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah and one each at the Port Dickson Hospital and Jempol Hospital. — Bernama
