TRUSAN: Response towards the mini regatta at Trusan River organised in conjunction with the ongoing Merdeka day celebration was overwhelming with hundreds of youths competing in the various events there.
Teams from Trusan, Sundar and Awat Awat took part in the various race which include the 15-paddler, 20-paddler, 25-paddler and 30-paddler category.
Also adding the excitement was the remote-control boat races, 9-a-side football tourney and a Hari Raya gathering at the Trusan Community hall in the series of events organised by Mengkalap Youth Club in Trusan.
Member of parliament for Lawas, Datuk Henry Sum Agong who officiated the opening ceremony called on the youths to uphold the spirit of unity, mutual understanding and harmony among themselves to enable the country and nation to progress further.
He said their active participation in government programmes and empowering themselves through education would lay a strong foundation of continuity on individual progress and nation building.
Henry said the future roles and responsibilities of youths as leaders in the country would be a heavy burden and pose as a big challenge but he is optimistic of their capabilities to continue peace, prosperity, unity and progress in the state and country.
Also present at the function were Trusan Senior Adminstrative Office (SAO) Siti Rohana Tuah, Mengkalab Youth Club chairman, Raymond KK Braim, local community leaders and village chiefs in Trusan Basin.
