Man gets 8 months’ jail for possessing stolen motorbike

KUCHING: An unemployed man from Kampung Kudei was sentenced to eight months in jail by the magistrates’ court here yesterday for possessing a stolen motorcycle last month.

Magistrate Syafiza Abdul Razak Tready meted out the sentence to one Yusmi Jemaan, 33, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

Yusmi was charged with possession of the Honda motorbike when he was detained by police at about 5.40pm in front of a shop along Jalan Matang Jaya on Aug 7.

His accomplice, who was also on the motorbike when they were detained, had claimed trial to the charge.

The 23-year-old Mohd Amirulamin Masri from Kampung Tupong Tengah will be tried on Oct 1 and 2.

A labourer staying at a flat at Taman Sri Makmur in Matang had lodged a police report that his vehicle, worth about RM2,800, parked downstairs went missing at about 8.15pm on July 5 this year.

In the same court room, a woman and a man charged with shoplifting claimed trial to the charge.

Magistrate Syafiza fixed Oct 1 and 2 for both the accused Maziah Azizi Abdullah, 24, and Wan Mohd Khairulanwar Wan Kadri, 20, to appear before the court.

The duo allegedly stole a T-shirt from a departmental store at The Spring Shopping Mall at about 8pm on June 5 this year.

They will be tried under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment or fine or both upon conviction.
