LABUAN: DAP Labuan chief Lau Seng Kiat yesterday clarified that the party representing Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to stand against the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Labuan parliamentary seat has yet to be finalised.

Lau was responding to the announcement that PAS would represent PR in Labuan in the coming 13th general election.

“I have been advised by PR leaders that allocation of seats in the peninsula has been confirmed while for Sabah and Labuan have yet to be finalised.

“Out of 165 parliamentary seats in the peninsula, some 45 constituencies will be represented by DAP and we are still in the process of negotiation to determine the contesting parties in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan,” he said.

He added that the letter provided by PAS at the meeting on Monday was not an agreement but a proposal.

Lau however reiterated that DAP would extend its whole support to the party chosen to represent PR to contest against BN in Labuan.

Labuan PAS on Monday announced that it would represent PR in contesting against BN for the Labuan parliamentary seat.

Federal Territory PAS commissioner Haji Mohamad Noor bin Mohamad said the seat distribution in the federal territory had been agreed by the top federal territory opposition leaders from PAS, PKR and DAP.

Mohamad said DAP would contest in Seputeh, Cheras, Segambut, Kepong and Bukit Bintang, while PKR would stand at Bandar Tun Razak, Lembah Pantai, Batu and Wangsa Maju.

“PAS will stand in Titiwangsa, Putrajaya and Labuan.

“The agreement was made on August 18 and an agreement letter had been issued regarding the seat distribution.

“So it is clear that PAS will stand here in Labuan,” he said during the meeting of Pakatan Rakyat leaders here.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make an announcement the party and the candidate to represent PR when he arrives in Labuan on September 15.

Labuan PKR chief Simsudin Hj Sidek echoed Lau’s statement that Anwar is expected to give the final decision when he visits the island on September 15.

Simsudin also disclosed that the PR gathering will be held at the PKR Centre at Lot 8, SEC project house, Jalan Batu Arang.
