LAHAD DATU: The Magistrate’s Court yesterday fined a local man RM8,000, in default, six months’ imprisonment, for possessing 0.05 gramme of methamphetamine.
Mohd Kamil Mohd Saidi, 27, who was brought before Sessions Court judge M. Rajalingam who sat as a magistrate, was slapped with the fine after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence on Jan 12.
The charge against Mohd Kamil was framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same Act which provides for a maximum fine of RM100,000, or a jail sentence for a maximum of five years, or both, upon conviction.
Inspector Soffi Jalal who conducted the prosecution, informed the court that the accused was arrested around 3.10pm in front of a house at Taman Aman III after he took out a paper fold which contained the banned substance.
