Sarbex assembles a group of players involved in building related trades such as property developers, building materials manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, home furnishing, interior designers, estate agents, bankers and government agencies as well as non-governmental organisation (NGO) to promote, display and sell their products and services to the general public.

Started since 1998, the organiser of Sarbex, the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) has been actively promoting the expo every year through their aggressive advertising campaigns.

According to the secretary general and organising chairman of Sarbex 2012, Sim Kiang Chiok, this year they would be spending about 30 per cent of the total proceeds from the sales of more than 100 booths on the advertisements through nine major media players.

This year, there will be a total of 100 exhibitors taking part in the event and there will be a total of 120 booths opened along the foyer of BCCK for visitors to view and get information of the products on sale.

Sim said that this year there would be not only local developers participating, but also a few developers from Australia and West Malaysia promoting their properties during the exhibition.

He revealed that during last year’s Sarbex 2011, there were about 13,000 visitors at to the exhibition and this year the organiser was targeting 14,000 visitors during the three-day event.

“We want quality visitors who are willing to invest and eventually make a closing sale with our exhibitors this year,” he added.

Sim pointed out that the estimated properties on display this year would add up to about RM500 million including various types of houses, apartments, condominiums and flats.

“We encourage visitors to come along, regardless of the fact that you have already bought a house or are planning to buy a new house.

We have everything you need in terms of real estate properties under one roof,” he reiterated.

When asked of the demand for property in the state at the moment, Sim explained that the property demand in Sarawak was still very high and encouraging due to population growth and also due to the active economic activities such as the impetus of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy and its spillover effect for the state.

He also said that there were many Sarawakians who had more purchasing power to buy a house of middle to upper price levels because they had earned good money from their investment in oil palm and other commodities.

Although he could not disclosed any figures of sales made during the previous Sarbex, he commented that the event had always been a success as most of the developers were very keen to participate every year.

“We receive good response from developers as this event helps them to promote their property sales,” he said.

Apart from the exhibition, there will also be a daily lucky draw that will be held at 2pm until 8pm during the three days event.

And to enter the grand lucky draw, all buyers could purchase or make deposit payment of RM500 or above with the exhibitors of Sarbex 2012 to be eligible for the contest which would be held on the final day of the event (September 23) at 8.30pm.

For the grand lucky draw, the public stands a chance to win elegant furniture and valuable mattress sponsored by G Vanni Home Concept Sdn Bhd and also stylish furniture and home furnishing sponsored by AT&A Home Idea Sdn Bhd worth a total of RM20,000.

This year, Sarbex 2012 will be held in collaboration with Absolute Cool Event (ACE) management.
