EC member retires after 10 years of service

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Haji Jamdin Buyong, a member of the Election Commission (EC), announced his retirement after serving close to 10 years since 2002.

In a press conference yesterday, Jamdin said he had served from October 2002 to September 4 this year.

“I am proud and satisfied to be able to serve and execute my responsibilities to the best of my abilities.”

Jamdin said his service started with the preparation of the proposal for state and parliament re-delineation studies.

“In the re-delineation studies in 2003, parliamentary seats in Sabah were increased to 25, while state seats were increased to 60,” he said during his last visit to the Sabah election office here yesterday.

Jamdin was also involved in the 11th and 12th general elections, preparation of the 13th general election as well as many by-elections.

Present at the press conference was Sabah election office director Datuk Haji Md Idrus Ismail.

Meanwhile, Idrus said a representative from Sabah who will replace Jamdin would be announced in due course.
