KUCHING: A man who attacked his uncle with a knife was imprisoned for three years after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court to the offence committed early this month.

Basri Saini, 24, from Kampung Gita Laut was convicted by Magistrate Maris Agan of the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum 20 years’ jail.

He appeared calm when the decision was handed down by the court.

His family members were present in court yesterday. His parents accepted the decision which they saw as teaching their son a lesson.

The brief facts of the case stated that armed with a knife, Basri who ran amok chased his uncle to the main roadside, catching up with him and slashing him.

The victim was brought to hospital by family members and a police report was made at Gita Police Station.

The medical report showed multiple cuts over the uncle’s trunk, scalp and left upper limb, for which he received almost 100 stitches. Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted.
