Like ‘teaching ducks how to swim’

TENOM: State Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman is confident the Barisan Nasional (BN) can win the 13th general election as the ruling coalition is on the right track.

“I am confident BN can win the 13th general election based on strong support of the people in the state, including the interior,” he said when opening the joint Umno Tenom and Pensiangan division delegates meeting at Datuk Seri Panglima Antanom hall here yesterday.

The Chief Minister urged the people not to fall for the opposition’s lies, traps and smear campaign as they were jealous of the success of the BN government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

He also lashed out at opposition leaders, especially from the peninsula who came to Sabah to teach the state BN government how to manage the state well.

“They are just like ‘teaching the ducks how to swim’.

“Opposition leaders should look at how the Pakatan Rakyat administered the states under their control,” he said.

Musa said Sabah is enjoying far better and faster development than the opposition-held states, particularly Penang and Selangor.

In comparison, he said the budget approved by the opposition government in Penang this year was less than RM1 billion and in Selangor it was only around RM1.6 billion.

“This is far lower than the Sabah government’s budget of more than RM4 billion. Additionally, Sabah also has a good record in managing its finances which have a large reserve,” he said.

Musa, who is also the state Finance Minister, added the Auditor General’s Report also recognized the state’s financial management as among the best in the country.

In this regard, he urged the people of Sabah to reject the opposition in the next election, and instead give full support to the government led by Najib who proved his ability to look after the welfare of the people in this country.

He said the BN government always looked into the plight of the people by implementing more development programmes, including infrastructure in the rural areas.

“We should be thankful and grateful to the Prime Minister who introduced various transformation programmes solely to improve the living standard of the people regardless of race, religion and ethnicity,” he said.

For example, he said Sabah had been allocated a large federal allocation in this year’s budget. The government under the Prime Minister is also providing various incentives, including the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), 1Malaysia Clinic and others that all lead to a good and improving quality of life of the people.

Musa is convinced Tenom and Pensiangan Umno will continue to be a stronghold of BN in the interior areas and this can be achieved if leaders and members give priority to the party’s struggle.

He also defended the state government’s granting of communal land titles to villagers so that they could have their own land to work on.

Musa said the opposition claims that the government took the land of the people was not true and it was deliberately raised to poison the people’s minds.
