Samarahan prepares early for Sarawak Cup

KUCHING: The Samarahan division football association is currently conducting selection process for its team competing in the coming Sarawak Cup competition which will be held in Miri on Oct 1-7.

According to team manager Ismawi Muhammad who heads the selection panel, they are already entering final stages of selection with trials conducted last week.

“Team coach Awang Jobli Awang Bidin was at the trial sessions to pick the players. He was assisted by his assistant who is also a former state player, Idris Untong,” he said.

Ismawi added that the turn out for the trials was overwhelming and he was also happy that many talented and established players from the division turned up. A total of 70 players turned up for the trials.

“We want to be champions again this year. We do not want to wait any longer for another championship title,” he added.

For the record, Samarahan were last champions of the Sarawak Cup in 2008.

They succeeded then by beating Sibu in an epic match in the final.

As for the draw of the competition, Samarahan is placed in group B together with Kapit, PDRM and Sri Aman. The tournament is divided into three groups.

Host Miri on the other hand is placed in group C along with Young Crocs A, Sibu and Armed Forces.

Group A on the other hand have Young Crocs B, Bintulu, Sarikei and Betong.
