Spreading love for orchids through photography

KUCHING: Hundreds of avid photographers from all walks of life turned up at the ‘Orkidku’ photography competition held at Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Orchid Garden, Jalan Astana here yesterday.

The one-day competition from 8am to 4pm was co-organised by DBKU and Orchidwoods Company in collaboration with Canon using as official media, The Borneo Post, Utusan Borneo and See Hua Daily,

Some participants came as early as 7am in the hope of getting first dip and exclusive shots on some of the orchids exhibited at the park.

The beautiful weather ensured the event was memorable for photographers and visitors alike.

“The objective of this photography competition was to promote DBKU Orchid Garden to the public and orchid lovers not only from the region but the world. Additionally, participants learn about the orchid species in this garden. The competition promotes interest in orchids,” stated DBKU in a press release.

WHAT LOVELY BLOOMS!: Some of the participants take the opportunity to hone their photographic skills.

First prize winner of the ‘Orkidku’ (my orchid) photography competition will receive a Canon Powershot S100 and Canon Pixma MG3170 printer.

The second prize is a Canon Powershot A2300IS while the third prize a Canon Selphy CP800 Photo Printer.

The next five winners will receive consolation prizes of a Canon EOS Tripod each.

Top eight winners will receive Canon gifts and certificate each.

Photos taken during the competition will be exhibited at the lobby of DBKU Orchid Garden from Sept 9 to 15.  Winners will be notified by DBKU through the media and phone calls.

The prize presentation ceremony will take place on Sept 23.
