Shutterbugs Compete In Canon Photomarathon

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Photographers ranging from beginners to professionals gathered at Radisson Hotel yesterday for the Canon Photomarathon Brunei Darussalam 2012, Borneo Bulletin reported.

What was previously called Canon Photo Shootout Brunei, now changed to Canon Photomarathon Brunei Darussalam, was organised by Interhouse Company.

Vincent Goh, Deputy Managing Director of Interhouse Company, said, “We are in line with Canon’s direction whereby they call it Photomarathon, which is run in every Southeast Asian region. It is an international event held once a year at each respective country Brunei is now in line with their system in running this competition.”

He also said, “We are very happy with this year’s turn out. It was More than what we were expecting as last year’s event only saw around 230 people who participated in the event, but this year, we were overwhelmed as the numbers increased to more than 300. After last year’s photo shoot out was a success, they were anxious for the second photo competition. A professional, amateur or beginner can now enjoy photography today”

Mr Heng Ting Guan from Canon Singapore was a special guest who witnessed and participated in the Canon Photomarathon 2012.

In his speech at yesterday’s opening ceremony he said, “Since last year’s Brunei Canon Photo Shootout turned out to be a success, this year’s Photomarathon Brunei aims to promote photographers from all walks of life to come together to enjoy and share the art of photography through Canon imaging culture with our latest equipment EOS 1DX and EOS 5D Mark 3.”

Mr Heng Ting Guan also announced that Canon Singapore Pte Ltd will be sending two winners from Brunei to attend a Canon Photo Clinic overseas to interact and improve their photography skills with a professional photographer.

A total of nine individuals, three from each theme, won attractive prizes at yesterday’s event. Three themes were given to the participants, which were Green, Street Scene and Lights.

The participants who won first place in the three themes were Awg Azizi @ Azri bin Hj Zainal, Awg Hassnal Sulaiman @ Adam and Awg Nizal Syahrumi Wulidana. The winners received a Canon EOS 60D EFS 18-55mm kit.

Second places went to Awg Michael bin Ruiz, Awg Anas Afandi bin Hj Md Hussain and Awg Panji Widhiarto, who all won a Canon IXUS 500HS.

Third places were won by Awg Hj Tejuddin bin Hj Sulaiman, Awg Nasrul Hadi bin Hamdan and Awg Sapta IIudaya, who each received a Canon PIXMA MP276 AIO printer.
