Foreigner jailed for possessing drug

LAHAD DATU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a foreigner to 24 months’ imprisonment for possessing 4.75 grams of Methamphetamine.

Ansam Jakaraya was jailed after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Jalan Kampung Puyut, in Lahad Datu town area on June 25, this year.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest.

Sessions Court judge M Rajalingam, who sat as a magistrate, charged the accused under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same Act.

Inspector Soffi Jalal while prosecuting, told the court that the accused was arrested
during ‘Ops Tapis’ conducted by district narcotic police at the area after acting suspiciously.

The accused had handed a clear plastic packet containing three packets with clear powder, believed to be syabu, when inspected by the police.

The judge also ordered him to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence for deportation to his country of origin.
