KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has advised members of PBB Demak Laut to always put party interests ahead of personal interests.

He said this was the culture of PBB ever since its formation and it had enabled the party to grow strong and united today. “We must be true leaders although we might have differences in opinions. Despite having differences in opinions, our ultimate goal must be the same, and this can be done by putting party interest ahead of our personal interests.

“When the party leadership has adopted a decision, we must obey and defend that decision together,” Wan Junaidi, who is also a PBB Supreme Council member, said this at a hari Raya gathering organised by PBB Demak Laut Branch, Demak Laut Service Centre and Santubong Service Centre at The Regency Rajah Court here on Sunday.

Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, PBB Demak Laut branch chief Datuk Dr Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen, PBB Demak Laut Wanita chief Rokiah Temben and Youth chief Wan Hamzah Wan Paie were among those present.

It is unsure what had prompted Wan Junaidi, who is also Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, to touch on party unity, but there exists a speculation that Dr Abang Rauf, the former Demak Laut assemblyman, is making a political come back.

But Dr Abang Rauf denied that speculation at the gathering. Santubong houses the state seats of Demak Laut, Tanjung Datu and pantai Damai.

Wan Junaidi also talked about the need for folks in Demak Laut to take education seriously as the constituency had evolved into an Industrial Transformation Zone.

“It is only through education that the people can develop into quality human capital and continue meaningfully to nation building.”

The five-term MP said the state government had done much to help develop the skills of the people in all sectors all these years.

“But the real players are ourselves. The positive approaches by the state government must be welcomed and supported by the people so that we will continue to advance and not be left behind.”

Meanwhile, Dr Hazland said the concept of development in his constituency was to focus on human capital development.

“My concept is rather different because I’m focusing more on human capital development considering our area is an Industrial Transformation Zone.

“It will be a pity if we are not able to enjoy the prosperity as a result of the development implemented in our area.”
