SANDAKAN: A 33-year-old woman, believed to be heart-broken, threatened to jump to her death from the sixth floor of a hotel at Bandar Labuk Mile 7 here but was promptly saved by the fire and rescue team and police yesterday.
The woman from the Peninsular was said to be in Sandakan for a leisure visit.
She checked into the hotel before stepping out of her room window and stood on the ledge about 9am.
The police and the fire and rescue team tried to persuade her to step in, but she refused.
While on the ledge, the woman was seen drinking and smoking a cigarette.
After almost a two-hour stand-off, three fire and rescue members rushed to the woman through adjacent windows and grabbed her.
The woman put up a struggle but by 10.55am, she was safely carried into the building before she was handed over to the police.
It was reported that she made two calls while on the ledge, one to her mother and the other to her former lover who hails from Tawau.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department senior operation commander Deputy Superintendent Ordine Gilu said they received an emergency call from the hotel about 9.45am.
He added that three fire trucks with 15 personnel rushed to the scene.
Meanwhile, district police chief Rowell Marong said the woman was reported to be going through a break-up.
She was brought to the police department for further investigation.
