Chickens thief goes to jail

TAWAU: A 30-year-old local man was sentenced to 14 days’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for stealing four chickens.

Karim Amrullah bin Abd Maid pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code which provides imprisonment up to seven years or fine, or both.

Magistrate Edward Paul meted out the sentence and ordered the sentence to run from the date of arrest.

The accused and an accomplice went to Block 8, Felda Umas 4 about 7pm on September 6 this year and stole four chickens worth about RM135 that belonged to Abdullah bin Simin.

The victim realized his chickens were missing the next morning and found out that the accused had stolen them. With the help from his son who is a Felda police volunteer, they detained the accused and seized four chickens from a buyer.

Karim sold the chickens for RM35 and used the money to buy cigarettes and food. He was handed over to the police on September 8 after the victim made a police report.
