TAWAU: About 500 local cabbies who had not applied for the 1Malaysia People’s Taxi (TR1Ma) RM520 vouchers are urged to come to the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) office here so that the board could know of their problem.

CVLB director Ariffin Samsudin said this during the handing over of TR1Ma RM520 vouchers to 351 licensed taxi operators here at the residence of Tanjung Batu assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat yesterday.

He said out of the more than 1,000 taxi operators that had not applied for the TR1Ma, 500 were from Tawau, and he urged those who had not applied to do so as CVLB wanted all licensed taxi operators to receive the vouchers.

He also said Tawau cabbies would be receiving some good news to be announced by the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Hamisa said the distribution of the vouchers proved Barisan Nasional’s ‘janji detepati’ (promise fulfilled), and should not be seen as an election tactic to fish for votes.

“This is not fishing; why we should support the government is because it is proven that the government has helped the people a lot,” she said.

She said the vouchers were meant for buying new tyres and ensured taxi operators travelled safely and help ease some of their burden.
