KUCHING: PBB Youth vice-chief Pandi Suhaili is initiating a police report against a TV1 forum panellist Md Yusri Hidrus for making comments demeaning and degrading to Sarawak.

Pandi said the police report will be lodged at the Central Police Station in Kuching on Malaysia Day (this Sunday) if Md Yusri does not apologise to Sarawakians.

Md Yusri, an undergraduate from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), had reportedly uttered comments such as ‘Sarawak is developed because there is McDonalds outlet in Kuching’ and ‘Don’t blame the Peninsula people for seizing job opportunities because Sabah, Sarawak people prefer becoming farmers and fishermen’.

He had made the remarks during the TV1 forum show Bicara Kampus. It is also learnt that Md Yusri was best orator at a recent inter-varsity debate competition.

“Sarawakians feel sad and angry over such remarks which do not reflect the high personality of an undergraduate who talked before thinking about the consequences to the harmony in our beloved country.

“Md Yusri must apologise to the people of Sarawak if indeed he had made such remarks,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Pandi also called on TV1 to stop engaging Md Yusri in its future Bicara Kampus shows.

“If TV1 still engages his services, this means that TV1, which is owned by the government, is not concerned with preserving the inter-racial harmony in Malaysia,” he said.
