MIRI: Newly established oil and gas training institution Cahaya Educational & Training Academy or CETA has successfully held its orientation programme for new students in its first intake for the 2012/2013 academic year.

Aimed at familiarising the students with the new environment, many of them will find life there quite different from home.

Administration executive Nurhanisah Mohamad Juli conducted it with the assistance of other CETA’s staff.

Chief operating officer cum principal Abang Shaharudin Abang Mansor in his welcoming address, advised the students to make full use of their time there to learn new skills.

He added that the demand for skilled workers in the oil and gas industry is overwhelming and it is CETA’s role to provide the platform for aspiring students intending to work in the industry.

In today’s era of globalisation, he said, the learning process is challenging coupled with the changing workplace in the oil and gas industry.

Hence, professionalism in every person’s work attitude should be exemplified to achieve quality in his or her work as required by the industry.

“If this can be achieved, the quality of CETA’s graduates will meet the demands of the industry as a whole,” said Abang Shaharudin.

Chief executive officer Philip L Apoi also managed to spend some time with the new students where he advised them on the importance of discipline throughout their learning journey there.

“It is important because it reflects on the person’s identity and also the institution. We do not just emphasise on academic excellence but also a holistic approach towards learning especially producing disciplined graduates ready to face the challenging workplace in the oil and gas industry,” he emphasised.

Programmes offered by CETA are fully recognised by the Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC) that has been appointed as the industry leader by the Malaysia Human Resource Ministry in the petroleum and gas industry.

In another development, CETA is already in its final stages in obtaining recognition from the American Petroleum Institute (API) so that the syllabuses used are benchmarked with international standards.

Among courses offered include DFT 101 Mechanical/Piping Drafting for Oil & Gas, DFT 102 Civil/Structural Drafting for Oil & Gas, DFT 103 Electrical Drafting for Oil & Gas, DFT 104 Control and Automation Drafting for Oil & Gas and DFT 105 Process Drafting for Oil & Gas.

CETA’s new campus is at Lot 10170, Block 10, Kuala Baram Land District (KBLD), Jalan Pujut 7, Miri, with operating hours from 8am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 8am to 12.30pm on Saturday.
