Dewa shines in S’wak regatta opener

KUCHING: Defending champion, Dewa stamped its class in the opening day of this year’s Sarawak regatta after winning three of the 10 heats held yesterday.

With the support from scores of supporters and the excited public, Dewa was the clear winner in the qualifying races of men’s Bidar A – 15 paddlers, Balok A – 7 paddlers and Bidar C – 15 paddlers.

The team also qualified for the finals of men’s Bidar B – 20 paddlers after finishing third in the qualifying race.

Other notable teams which stole yesterday’s show was Puteri Dang Balai team which won the qualifying races of men’s Bidar B -15 paddlers, Bidar D – 15 paddlers dan Bidar B -30 paddlers.

The team led by Nasri Jamali also qualified for the finals of men’s Bidar A -15 paddlers after finishing second yesterday.

Meanwhile, Pusaka 2 led by Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, was also on the winning roll after finishing first in the qualifying round of men’s Bidar A – 30 paddlers.

Pusaka 2 was unstoppable with Landas 1 and Landas 2 trailing in second and third placing respectively.

Perumahan team also sent out clear warnings to their others after three of its boats qualified for the final round after their commendable finishing in the qualifying races of Balok B – 7 paddlers, Balok A – 7 paddlers and Bidar A -15 paddlers.

The team’s manager, Wan Umar Wan Muhammad expressed satisfaction with their paddlers’ performance and are banking high hopes on Keris Terbang dan Ongbak which will compete in today’s races.
