KAPIT: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members here are called to ensure Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the seat during the upcoming parliamentary election.

Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said it was vital for BN to win because Kapit was a rural constituency that still needed development.

“We’re still lagging behind and we need a lot more infrastructure and amenities. The significance of this election is the concept of 1Malaysia – People First, Performance Now,” he said during a PBB election awareness workshop on Thursday.

“Think seriously about who has helped us to develop. It’s BN. Keep our loyalty with BN, which has taken care of the people’s welfare because we still need the government’s assistance.”

Nanta stressed that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) would not be able to govern well because the objectives of its coalition partners Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) were too different.

He also questioned the motives of those who have indicated their interest to contest in the seat against him. “If the opposition, be they DAP, PKR or independent candidates, want to contest in the coming election in P215 Kapit because they want to serve the people, we’re very happy.

We thank them for their willingness to serve but make sure they look after their supporters throughout the following five years.

“The opposition shouldn’t appear like mushrooms and disappear after the election. The opposition must be responsible, don’t just fish for votes and then disappear, deserting their supporters and leaving them unattended,” he warned.

He pointed out that BN’s service centres were always open to take care of the people’s needs.

Nanta added that as the backbone of Sarawak BN, PBB was well prepared and ready for the election, which could be held any time.
