KENINGAU: A 33-year-old local man from a village in Sook caught in possession of a homemade gun, locally known as ‘bakakuk’, was arrested on Wednesday.

Keningau district police chief Deputy Superintendent Robert Salisip saidyesterday at a press conference the arrest was made pursuant to a police report lodged on September 12 by a member of the public, alleging a man was having a homemade gun in his possession.

“An inspection led to the discovery of the weapon along with two bullets and initial investigation also revealed that inside the barrel of the gun was a spent cartridge,” he said.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the district police headquarters for further investigation under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960, while the weapon had been confiscated.

A conviction imposes an imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years, or a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both,” Salisip explained.
