KUALA BELAIT: As a token of appreciation over the completion of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 66th birthday celebration, a district-level thanksgiving ceremony was held yesterday at the Convention Hall in the Belait District, Borneo Bulletin reported.
The function was attended by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman, in his capacity as Chairman of the National Executive Committee for His Majesty’s 66th Birthday Celebrations, who was accompanied by his spouse.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi bin Hj Mohammad Yussof; members of the Legislative Council representing Belait; Permanent and Deputy Permanent Secretaries; and other members of the organising committee.
As the ceremony got underway, the Minister of Home Affairs went from table to table to personally greet and mingle with those in attendance as well as people who participated in the special performances.
The event then proceeded with the mass recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and thanksgiving prayer led by the Belait District Mosque Affairs Officer. This was followed by a welcoming speech presented by the Belait District Officer, Awg Hj Haris bin Othman, who expressed his appreciation for the “hard work, enthusiasm, cooperation and commitment of committee members, performance participants and everyone else that was involved in the successful and vibrant event”.
The minister then presented certificates of appreciation to committee members and event chairpersons, as well as participants of special performances and Khatam Al-Quran.
The occasion coincided with Belait’s district-level Hari Raya celebration that was based on the concept of ‘Rumah Terbuka Mukim-mukim’, where every Mukim, along with the Belait District Office, set up its own respective hut containing a variety of food and beverages.
The occasion was further enlivened with poetry recitals and song performances.
