KUCHING: Former Padungan assemblyman Dominique Ng, although out of the political limelight, is continuing with his Malaysia Day flag raising ceremony at the Padang Merdeka here at 10am today.
Ng said it will be the eighth consecutive year since 2005 that he initiated the simple ceremony at the venue, formerly known as Central Padang, and the site where the Malaysia flag was first raised in Kuching 49 years ago.
“It seems that both the BN and Pakatan Rakyat will be highly politicising the coming Malaysia Day with their own ceremonies. Be kindly informed that I shall continue with my simple flag raising ceremony at the Central Padang,” he said yesterday.
It was not immediately known who else would be going to the ceremony that Ng started when he was still in PKR.
Ng, who served as Padungan assemblyman from 2006 to 2011, had at one time even claimed credit when Malaysia Day was finally made a national holiday two years ago.
Ng has been out of political limelight ever since he quit PKR last year to contest in the state election where he failed to defend his Padungan seat.
Meanwhile, Pakatan will be holding its own Malaysia Day celebration at Chonglin Park here today to be attended by top leaders including PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Kuching Declaration would be unveiled at the event that is scheduled to start at 3pm.
The national-level Malaysia Day is in Bintulu, at which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will officiate.
Ministers from both the federal and state cabinets will be in attendance.
