Plan to hold separate elections reflects opposition’s desperation to win — Liow

BENTONG: Selangor’s announced intention to hold the state elections separately from the next general election shows that the opposition is desperate to win, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said here.

He said the state government led by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) was doubtful of the people’s evaluation of its administration after having made many empty promises.

“We have to leave it to the people to make the evaluation, not use ruses such as this (separate elections) to win. A party must work hard to win an election,” he told reporters after visiting three families affected by a fire in Kampung Sungai Dua near here on Saturday.

Liow, who is the health minister, said any tactic or strategy which the opposition wanted to employ in the next general election would not undermine the Barisan Nasional (BN) election machinery which was ready for the general election. — Bernama

He was asked to comment on a decision of the Pakatan Rakyat presidential that Selangor would hold separate elections because of what it alleged were ‘unresolved problems’ with the state electoral rolls which it claimed included thousands of dubious voters. — Bernama
