It was jointly organised by ITB’s Environmental Club and Voluntary Club along with the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation under the Ministry of Development with Daikyo Environmental Recycling Sdn Bhd, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Attending the ceremony as guest of honour was Dr Hjh Naemah binti Hj Basir, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Institut Teknologi Brunei.

The ceremony opened with welcoming remarks from Zatil Ridh’wah binti Darot, the President of the Environmental Club.

This was then followed by a presentation by Hj Mohd Zin bin Hj Yaakub, an Environmental Officer from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation.

The presentation gave an overview on the waste management in. Brunei Darussalam, the importance of recycling and how to recycle effectively.

The project was officiated by the guest of honour with guests, lecturers and staff placing their collection of recyclables into the bins provided and located in the vicinity of the student parking area.

Much has been known and taught about the 3Rs concept Reuse, Reduce and Recycle but it has not been widely practised.

Thus, the Extra Curricular Activity (ECA)/Centre of Communications for Teaching and Learning (CCTL) along with the Environmental Club and Voluntary Club of ITB initiated the “Building a Greener Campus through Recycling” Project.

The project focused on enforcing the 3Rs concept by introducing recycle bins in ITB and encouraging the students to practice the habit of recycling, to create awareness on the importance of recycling and preserving mother nature among ITB-ians, to promote teamwork and love for the environment and to instil a sense of responsibility to protect the environment.

Daikyo Environmental Recycling Sdn Bhd also collected the recyclable materials at the end of the ceremony.
