SIBU: SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan wants to see a clean fight in Mas Gading, and believes Barisan Nasional (BN) will retain the seat.

He said they were not worried about DAP, but wanted to see those calling themselves BN loyalists or BN supporters give their full support to whoever would be fielded by BN.

“Our chance of winning is very good as it has always been BN’s stronghold in spite of a few leaders ‘tussling’ here and there,” said Mawan, who is Social Development Minister.

Mordi Bimol, DAP’s hopeful for Mas Gading, has been very busy on the ground in recent months.

Mawan said: “It is their (DAP) democratic right to contest just like anybody else and we have anticipated this all along and this is nothing strange to us. That is their right.

“We hope that the fight is clean within the proper culture of politics. It is important to maintain peace and order. Don’t create something so lofty that can spark quarrels among the people.”

SPDP has picked Tasik Biru SPDP information chief and businessman Henry Harry Jinep and Salcra deputy general manager Anthony Nogeh as its potential candidates.

Meanwhile, it is understood that the BN Club has recommended incumbent Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe as the BN candidate for Mas Gading.

The BN Club comprises, among others, Dr Tiki, assemblymen Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie (Tasik Biru), Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran (Marudi), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau).
