Raya Celebration In Kampong Keriam

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Even though the month of Syawal is coming to a close, Hari Raya celebration is still ongoing. Kampong Keriam Consultative Council in collaboration with Keriam Malay Association (PESAKA), Tutong, recently organised an Aidilfitri get-together at Keriam Primary School’s Multipurpose Hall, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The event was held as a yearly activity and was attended by the guest of honour, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Awang Roslan bin Hj Taja’ah, and his spouse.

The event began with a speech by PESAKA’s President, Awg Ahanapi bin Hj Mahadi, followed with a feast and singing and stage performances by the residents of Kampong Keriam and PESAKA’s youths.

The activities that were well received by the guests were the lucky draw and the giving of green packets.

However, the highlight of the event was the prize presentation by the guest of honour to the winners of the ‘Best Dressed Children’ and the ‘Best Decorative House Lights’ competitions.

The guest of honour also presented certificates to officers and other participants that participated in the International Cultural Festival in Tawau, Sabah held in February, and the International Cultural Festival in Sabah held in July. Also present during last nights event was the Village Head of Kampong Keriam, Awg Hj Morshidi bin Hj Mahadi, who presented a souvenir to the guest of honour as a token of appreciation. The aims of the event were to strengthen the bond amongst the residents of Kampong Keriam and to seek forgiveness from one another.
