KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has reminded the opposition not to play with state sentiments in their haste to grab power.

He said such action was dangerous and could lead to a conflict and split like what happened in some foreign countries.

“We built this nation for 55 years, brought progress and believe that the people of Malaysia are united.

“Don’t play with human sentiments as it can lead to never ending conflict,” he told reporters after witnessing the
memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing between Felcra and Risda here yesterday.

The MoU was signed by Risda director-general Datuk Wan Mohamad Zuki Mohammad and Felcra CEO Datuk Juzilman Basir witnessed by Felcra chairman Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Risda chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik.

Mohd Shafie said it was unnecessary to issue special identity cards (ICs) to Sabahans to distinguish them from others as proposed by Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee.

“Why should we have separate IC for Sabah? We are already one nation.”

He said the issue should not be raised as it was already agreed during the unification of Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsula.

On the MoU, the Rural and Regional Development Minister said the ministry would focus on three main areas to boost the income of rubber smallholders.

They were aimed at stabilising rubber prices, increasing productivity and expanding the use of the commodity.

“I am confident that Risda and Felcra can play a role in increasing the production of rubber in the country. — Bernama
