NANNING: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin arrived here Wednesday for a four-day visit to attend the ninth China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO).

He was received on arrival by Malaysian ambassador to China, Datuk Iskandar Sarudin, Vice-Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Lin Nianxiu and deputy director-general of the Guangxi Foreign Affairs Office, Song Haijun.

Accompanying Muhyiddin were International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, is scheduled to open the Malaysia Pavilion at the expo Thursday before having a bilateral meeting with Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping.

He will also receive courtesy calls from the secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangxi Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, Guo Shengkun.

Muhyiddin is expected to attend a briefing with China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park representatives on the progress of the park.

Meanwhile, Iskandar said the expo was aimed as providing Asean countries the opportunity to have dialogues, cooperation and establishing closer ties with China.

He said there would be 136 Malaysian exhibitors taking part in the expo.

Nanning is an important gateway to increasing trade between China and Asean countries, he added.
