Worker fined for stealing from employer

TAWAU: A 26-year-old contract worker was fined RM1,500, in default, five months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for stealing.

Magistrate Edward Paul meted out the sentence on Ramis bin Lahaji who pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code which provides imprisonment of seven years or fine, or both.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused stole 20 kilograms of used nails worth RM200 from his employer.

He committed the offence at noon on September 14 this year at Kilang Papan Shang Kuang, Tanah Merah Road, Merotai Besar.

The same court fined a 51-year-old local man RM50, in default, seven days¡¯ jail for possession of stolen goods.

Mohd Aton bin Mangasing pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 22A of the Minor Offence Ordinance (Cap 80).

The accused was caught in possession of two units of charger, a Nokia cellular phone, a Samsung cellular phone which were reported stolen in front of Hong Leong Bank, Haji sahabudin Road, Fajar area about 2pm on September 14, this year.

He failed to give a satisfactory explanation how he was in possession of the stolen goods.
