Man gets five years’ jail, whipping for robbing Indonesian housewife

KUALA LUMPUR: A worker at a wholesale market here was sentenced to five years’ jail and two strokes of the whip by the sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to robbing an Indonesian housewife two weeks ago.

Hisaruddin Mohd,30, smiled and thanked judge Datuk Jagjit Singh when the latter handed down the sentence.

Hisaruddin, from Bandar Pusat Jengka, Pahang, was charged with robbing Zahara Mutia, 30, of her handphone, worth RM800, and two gold rings, worth RM2,000.

The offence was committed in a lift at Wisma Hock Ann, Jalan Hj Hussien, Dang Wangi here at about noon last Sept 10.

In mitigation, Hisaruddin, said he has four school-going children to support and they are now staying with their ailing grandmother.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Nazneen Zulkifli prosecuted, while Hisaruddin was unrepresented. — Bernama
